DIY, DIT, and DIWFF Wedding Projects

Tony and I are planning our wedding this weekend--hence the failure to post consistently over the past months! The wedding was planned on a tight timeline and a fairly tight budget which meant we had a lot of "do it yourself", "do it together", and "do it with friends and family" projects.  I like these kinds of projects so we would have done many things ourselves even with more time or money.

I've been reminded again and again just how much our family and friends love us during the process. Upon hearing of our wedding, the first question out of each person's mouth was "let me know what I can do to help!" I know we could not have made this event as special as it will surely be without all of their help.

We have family members making gift baskets for out of town guests, constructing a photo booth, and baking our cake. Friends have volunteered their time and connections to provide drinks for our guests, tie hunderds of ribbons, create hand-made centerpieces, and deliver the flower arrangements. After the wedding craziness dies down I plan to do some posts on some of these individual projects.

In the meantime, a big thanks to everyone! And here are some pictures of DIY/T/WFF projects in progress around my house right now as I (impatiently) wait for the bulk flowers I ordered to arrive at my doorstep. Why of course we are doing our own flowers! :) More on that to come...

Plain cards stamped with our wedding "logo." Birds appear as a theme in our wedding guest cards, cake, and favors.

Yes...that is a tree in our living room. This will be our "wishing tree."  It is serving as our guestbook.  Guests will be asked to write a message to us on a tag and hang it on the tree.

This is the prep for those flowers. I've got all the vases planned for each table (and labeled according to a numbered floor plan).  Once the flowers come, the arrangements will be made. Hopefully it will be easy to put them out on the tables with the handy numeric coding system. :)

Spring Bulbs?!

_

With temperatures in the low 50's the past few days my tulip bulbs are starting to poke through the ground.  It looks like the rest of the month will have temps in the high 30's to low 50's.  It sure seems early.

After about 30 minutes of searching online about tulips coming up too early I couldn't find much but did find this:

"Fill several empty garbage pails with Straw (or you can use dry leaves) and mound over early sprouting Bulbs. If it snows, you can toss some snow over them to keep them from blowing away. If you can get the shovel into the ground and it is not frozen solid, sprinkle the tops with dirt - or get some sand or other mulching material from Home Depot and cover the leaves just enough to keep them in place over your Bulbs. Say 3 Hail Marys and 1 Our Father, then go inside and wait." -AllExperts.com

Unfortunately, we have a wedding coming up in two weeks.  So I'm thinking the bulbs are on their own. For those of you with some early risers, and some time, this sounds worth a try...maybe I'll try the hail mary part :)

...into our new bedroom that is!

Apple Banana Bread

I made some deeelicious looking banana bread today.  I love banana bread because it uses food that might be a tad too ripe to enjoy fresh.

I didn't have quite enough overripe bananas so I substituted applesauce for the rest of the bananas.  If the smell is any indication...we're in for a real treat :)

Making Room

Finished floors!

Our bedroom floors are finished and now we must wait for them to cure for SEVEN days! In the meantime I've been making plans for the new and improved closet space.  One thing I've been meaning to do for a while is get space-saving hangers in an effort to make the best use of our very limited closet space.

I picked up some thin hangers from Storables last week and re-hung all of Tony's clothes using the new hangers.  It is unbelieveable how much more space there is.  I think we might be able to hang twice as many clothes as we could with the previous hangers.
